Protective Styling, can be a gift and a curse. There are plenty of pros and cons for each style. I’ll be using my top 4 protective styles Both Pros & Cons. Hopefully this will help you decide which one is best for you.

Pros
- It was an easy DIY hairstyle.
- 3-6 packs of hair depending on the length
- versatile
- not a lot of tension on your edges or nape area
- easy to maintain
- washes easy & dries well
- always smells good
Senegalese
Pros
- It was an easy DIY hairstyle
- provided a lot of versatility
- washes easy & dries well
- can last about 6 to 8 weeks
Cons
- Depending on how it’s done, there can be a lot of tension and pulling around the edges, which will result in hair loss.
Faux Locs
Pros
- Easy access to my scalp
- they looked natural
- The upkeep was fairly easy
- it was easy to wash my scalp.
Cons
- My head was sore for about 2 weeks.
- took about 3 days to do.
- Buns and pony tails were too heavy.
- the locs pulled on my edges and nape area.
- The ends of them did not dry well, and had to be washed regularly. It always had that “wet dog” smell.
Weaves
No shade to the ones that wear them, but me? nope. not after this experience
Pros
- Hair is fully protected
- curls on fleek
- my hair washed & dried well.
Cons
- It felt like I was wearing a helmet.
- there was a lot of tension on my edges and my nap.
- a lot of breakage
- I hated the net that was under the weave
- I could NOT access my scalp at all. Especially not to wash it.
Crochet Braids
Pros
- Easy to Install
- trim to reduce frizz
- super easy to remove
- easy access to oil scalp
- Cheap alternative to weave
- different hair textures to choose him (look at featured image)
Cons
- Hair matted, frizzed and tangled within a few days
- This style last about 5-9 days, depending on your patience
- once it frizzes, it looks tangled.
