Cute & Kinky: Hair Moisturizer

Cute & Kinky: Hair Moisturizer

I had the pleasure of Reviewing the Cute & Kinky: Hair Moisturizer.

Here’s a brief description from the bottle. “Hair Moisturizer with aloe vera leaf juice, unrefined shea butter and certified organic coconut oil For all hair types. Prevents dryness. Helps to retain Natural Moisture.”available for  Purchase here

First Impressions

`When I first opened the bottle before my first use, I quickly noticed that the hair moisturizer was fragrance free and an almost creamish white color. It smells like “natural” products; which can be different if naturals aren’t used to using unrefined shea butter. It comes in an 8 oz. bottle, I also love that the bottle bolds everything they want you to know. Read it before you use it; so that you can have a clear idea of what you should expect.

“It does not enhance or subtract from the natural curl/coil definition. It provides moisture for your coils and curls to enjoy.” Just an FYI; it is on the bottle.

Finally using it!!

For a lot of the products I review, I normally use it on myself; as well as my son. We have different hair types, So I can normally get two product reviews for the price of one, (lol).  He’s a 3c and I am a type 4b/c.

We can start with my son.

I try not to wash my son’s hair everyday. His hair tends to dry out and get very frizzy when I do; plus there is a higher chance for him to catch colds, The hair moisturizer was definitely a great alternative to using a spray or water, and then a product to seal it. I feel that the Aloe Vera Leaf Juice played a huge part in the “moisture” it added to his hair. In the mornings, his hair has a tendency to look very dry and frizzy; after a wild night of sleeping. Using the hair moisturizer it made his hair easier to brush,

I was able to go a day or two between applications, his hair was still soft a day or two later, and it still had some shine to it. Also, his hair never felt heavy or “coated’. I never experienced the “white, flaky residue” with his hair either; which is a plus.

My son has a lot of allergies. And he’ll break out in a heart beat if the wrong products are used in his hair or on his skin. We can call him “sensitive” in a sense. But this product definitely didn’t cause him any skin issues or itchiness.

He would actually choose this product on his own everyday. and he HATES to brush or comb his hair.

That’s a win in the mom department.

For the Kinky girls in the back (me)

I used this product before and in between different styles. I did not use it as my “curl definer or holder”; it really was just to add moisture without wetting my hair daily.

hair recap

My hair was bleached (DIY) a few months ago, (April 2016); and I used a red rinse. After about a month and change of protective styling, I used an Indigo Blue rinse on the ends that were already bleached. My ends, are dry and poofy.  It doesn’t always retain moisture, and I have been slowly but surely trimming the color out of my hair. BUT it doesn’t change that my ends are dry… and damaged.

Using the Product on air dried hair with NO product.

I believe in using moisturizers on dry hair to see what they are capable of. Can they truly be considered moisturizers or do they just “cover” or better yet “coat” the problem. I parted my hair in sections and used the hair moisturizer directly on my dry hair. It gave my hair enough slip to be combed out and stretched. I was able to use a curl definer after the moisturizer.

the following day I was left with a fluffy, blue twist out that actually lasted for 3 days.  I didn’t have to moisturize my hair daily; and my hair remained soft to the touch a lot longer in between washes than normal.

Using the product on freshly washed hair

The following week and my favorite way to use this product is to use it on wet, freshly washed hair. I was able to use this product as a sealer and a leave in conditioner. My hair was softer than it was when I used the moisturizer on dry hair. My hair was fluffy and soft with a lot of shrinkage; (this product made my hair feel stronger and healthier with consistent use.)

For Best Results

  • Use on freshly washed OR product free hair
  • Do not use this product daily. Pay attention to your hair, if you stack product on top of product your hair will look “coated” and flaky.
  • Use The Cute & Kinky Hair Moisturizer BEFORE your favorite curl definer, unless your hair works best with the LCO method, (Liquid, Cream, Oil)

I really loved how this product worked and how the label doesn’t lye (pun intended). It does everything it says it will without false hopes. My hair was moisturized and soft for days at a time. Even if I used the product to sleek down my puffs with a hair butter ( I try to avoid gel as often as possible.); or moisturizing my mini twist or my French braids in between washes. It quickly became one of my staples, and a product I carry around in my purse. This is a must have for fall and winter hair care.
